PRINCETON, N.J.-- Bucknell senior Gillian Nordquist ran her last race as a Bison in dramatic fashion. The Clarkston, Mich., native placed fifth overall in the 10,000-meter race at the ECAC/IC4A Championships, hosted by Princeton. Nordquist crossed the line with a 36 minute, 50.80 second performance to take over the ninth-fastest time in Bucknell's school history.
"My goal for this race was to run without any regrets, because this was the last race of my college career," Nordquist said. "I'm so happy to say that my final race was my strongest and I that I had the opportunity to race in the Orange and Blue one last time."
Nordquist's race was a personal-best and was an almost 40-second improvement from her previous best time, which was recorded at the William and Mary Colonial Relays on April 3, when she ran 37:30.69 to qualify for the ECAC Championship meet. At the Patriot League Championshps, Nordquist placed sixth overall to score for the Bison. In Friday's race, she was the top Patriot League finisher.
"What Gillian did was nothing short of sensational," Bison head coach Kevin Donner said. "What a fantastic race to end a career!"
For the Bison men, junior Andrew Huebner took 27th in the 3,000 steeplechase, where he clocked 9:28.43. Huebner is qualified for the NCAA Regional meet in this event. Sophomore Stephen Dorsey competed in the men's 10,000, where he was unable to finish. The 10,000 was won by Iona senior Andrew Ledwith in 28:45.77.
The Bison will be back in action on Saturday with the men's decathlon beginning at 9 a.m. And the women's heptathlon beginning at 9:30 a.m.
