Day One of Colonial Relays Produces Two Big Qualifiers

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The first day of William and Mary's Colonial Relays produced big marks for Bucknell's men's and women's track and field teams. Junior Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) recorded an IC4A-Qualifying mark for the men and senior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) produced an ECAC-Qualifying mark on the women's side. The Bison sit in third place on both the men's and women's sides.
Yehl took third in the 110-meter hurdles, in 14.60 seconds to qualify for the IC4A meet. The school record holder in the event (14.36) was edged out by Daniel Kinney, of Howard, and Predist Walker, of Hampton.
The men were also able to grab a big performance by sophomore Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa), who took third in the pole vault, where he vaulted 15 feet, 3 inches to place third in the meet and fourth on Bucknell's all-time performance list. Fitzgerald also took seventh in the long jump (22-7), one spot behind teammate junior Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central), who placed sixth with a leap of 22-7 ¾.
Freshman Tom Barr (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College HS) took sixth in the shot put, throwing 48-11 ¾ for the Bison's top throws performance.
Breaking into the fifth spot on Bucknell's all-time performance list with a fourth-place finish, freshman Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) finished the 400 hurdles in 54.24.
In the women's 10,000, senior Nordquist earned her spot at the ECAC meet with a win in 37:30.69 in her first race this spring at this distance. Nordquist was followed by her two teammates, sophomore Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) (38:39.15) and senior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) (39:10.20), who took second and third for the sweep.
In the 400 hurdles, sophomore Jamie Leacock (Howell, N.J./Howell) clocked 1:04.12 to place fourth at the meet and put herself into eighth place on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list.
Sophomore Laura Rycek (Northamton, Pa./Northampton Area) placed fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 116-6, for the Bison's top field mark.
Competition continues Saturday with the women's hammer throw beginning at 9:30 a.m.
