WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bucknell's men's and women's track and field programs will set off on their quest for Patriot League crowns this weekend. The preseason rankings had the men's team tabbed to take third and the women fifth. The Bison women finished second last year, by two points, to Army, snapping their string of four straight titles. The men finished third behind Navy and Army.
The women's hammer will kick off the outdoor track and field action at 10 a.m. Friday.
Since the 1999 season, the Bison women have won the Patriot League Championships eight times of 10 times. Head Bison coach Kevin Donner has won the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year award four times since he began coaching for Bucknell in 2001.
The top men's finish in recent years at the outdoor championships was a runner-up finish at the 2007 Patriot League meet, their 11th second-place finish since 1992. The Bison's only Patriot League title was in 1991.
Both the men and women finished first in their only scoring meet of the outdoor season, the Bucknell Team Challenge, where the Bison handily defeated the eight-team competition. This past indoor season, the Bison both finished second to Army and Navy.
After the Patriot League Championships, the Bison will travel to the IC4A and ECAC Championships from May 16-17 in Princeton, N.J.
