Ryan Sandburg Receives Senior Athletic Award at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon), captain of the men's tennis team and the Bison's No. 1 flight singles player and member of Bucknell's top doubles pairing, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held in Terrace Room on Tuesday, April 28.
Sandburg won the Ronald J. “Pete” Pedrick Award, presented in “recognition of demonstrated improvement and special contributions to Bucknell athletics over a four-year period.” Sandburg shared the award with Jeweliet Yost of the women's rowing team, who was the female selection.
Sandburg's contributions to the Bucknell tennis program will not be soon forgot, as he recently took over first place from his former doubles teammate, Ira Reibeisen, for the most overall wins in Bucknell history. His career record of 150-114 overtook Reibeisen's (last year's winner of the Bison Club Award) total of 145-114.
As a member of the Bison's most-win producing doubles pairing this spring, Sandburg was joined by sophomore Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) for an 11-7 overall record this spring.
The Orange, Calif., native is a sociology and psychology double major and has been a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
This spring season Sandburg led the Bison were able to make their third straight semifinal at the Patriot League Tournament appearance before losing to eventual champion Navy, 4-0.
Bucknell is a highly-selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of 3,583 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 14 of 18 years, including 10 of the last 11.
Recently, 17 Bison programs – the fifth-most in Division I – earned NCAA Public Recognition for having Academic Performance Rates in the top 10 percent nationally in their respective sport. In addition, Bucknell ranks fifth in Division I in the total number of CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, with 117 national Academic All-Americans since 1970.
