Quotes
April 24, 2009
Army Head Coach Joe Alberici
(Opening comments)
“It felt like we played well enough to win.”
“We were forced into some bad shots but our selection was pretty good.”
“We made plays at the end of the third quarter when we were 7-5 and we were really taking it to them.”
“For thirteen minutes it felt like we were in control of the game.”
“Going into the fourth quarter I felt like it was important to go into it with a lead.”
“The last goal in the last second of the third quarter hurt.”
(On Mele's go-ahead goal)
“We should have been draped all over Mele. We know better than that. We just put a stick across him and it wasn't enough.”
(On the overall game)
“We had to push the ball in transition because they play such good six-on-six defense. But then once we got it we needed to be more patient, and I think we did that.
“Our clearing game gave us more trouble than in the past. We did not clear as efficiently as we needed to be in the second half. That cost us.”
(On the future)
“We are young defensively. We have some numbers and I feel pretty good about what we have.”
Bucknell Head Coach Frank Fedorjaka
(On the weather)
“I have my good-luck shirt on and it's 90 degrees out here. Sunday is supposed to be warmer and I'm going to be wearing this.”
(On the game)
“That was an absolute war. It wasn't even a few battles put together, it was a complete war. Every single ground ball was highly contested. It was a weird kind of game in that it was very settled for a lot of the game and very hectic for a lot of the game. It was either one extreme or the other. It was either mayhem or very slow.
“I was really proud of how our guys hung in there, being down as the number one seed in the fourth quarter, maintaining composure, and sticking it out.”
(On Charlie Steep's buzzer beater goal)
“Charlie had a similar goal against Navy that was with five seconds left. This one was four seconds. There were six seconds left against Colgate. He has had three buzzer-beating goals.”
(On the goalie situation)
“Sciubba is our goalie. He is our best stopper. He is the undisputed best stopper on our team. Antonelli is energy. He directs the defense a little bit better and he is loud so that picks up the defense. When Scuibba is not being a great stopper we go with the energy. They are two really good goalies and they are two totally different goalies.”
(Final thoughts)
“It was an honor to play against Army today. It was what you call an instant classic. It was a very back-and-forth absolute war with two teams going as hard as they possibly can. I have to give a lot of credit to Army, as they wore us down pretty good for Sunday.”
Bucknell Freshman Charlie Streep
(On his goal at the end of the third quarter )
“There wasn't really much I could do. I just tried to get to the goal as fast as possible and get a decent shot off.”
(On his thoughts for Sunday)
“We still have a lot of work to do, but it is just a great feeling knowing that we just battled for 60 minutes to get where we are right now. In any case we are going to be playing another great team. We are just going to work hard and work together and hope for the same results.”
Bucknell Goalie Junior Nick Sciubba
(On how he stayed in the game mentally to make those big saves at the end of the game)
“I gotta put it all on my teammates. I'd be lying to say I wasn't disappointed getting taken out of the game. But I got everyone on the team coming up to me telling me to keep my head up. They are going to need me later on in the game and that picked me up a little bit.”
“The thought of coming back into the game stayed fresh in my head so I just wanted to be ready in case it did happen.”
(On his thoughts for Sunday)
“No matter what on Sunday these are both great teams that we match well against.”
“It's going to be another battle on Sunday.”
(His opinion of home field and the fans)
“We had some great fans there today and that definitely picked me up.”
“The support that we get means a lot to our team. We got picked up a lot after each goal by our crowd.”
