Bucknell's Men's and Women's Tennis Teams To Host Army Saturday, Lafayette Sunday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's men's and women's tennis programs will each have two home matches this weekend; against Army on Saturday, with the men playing at 10 a.m. and the women playing at 2 p.m. The matches against Lafayette, on Sunday, will begin at noon. Prior to Sunday's matches, Bucknell's seniors will be honored for their accolades as Bison athletes.
On Saturday the men will take on the Black Knights (7-13). To cap off the weekend, the men will take on Lafayette Sunday, who have a record of 5-9.The Bison (6-8) will be looking to bring their record to 8-8 after the weekend.
The women will be looking to make it five straight wins, on Saturday, against an Army team that has accumulated an overall record of 20-7 this season. The Bison women will take on a Leopard team with an overall record of 3-6 on Sunday.
On Sunday seniors Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic), Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade), Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Jamie Watson (Darien, Conn./Darien) will be honored for the men Seniors Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional), Ashley Globerman New City, N.Y./Clarkstown High School, Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) and Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) will be honored for the women.
The Bison will be back in action Wednesday, April 15, with a women's match at Lehigh, at 3:30 p.m. and a men's match at Penn State at 5 p.m.
Women's Tennis Notes
• The top producers of wins in singles this spring have been Lauren Rottkamp and Lauren Lucido. Each has garnered 13 wins this season with Rottkamp only losing once and Lucido losing three times. Freshman Dumitrita Iepuras takes third with a 12-3 record.
• In doubles this year, the Bison have relied heavily on Gamboa and Lucido in the top doubles spot, where they've won nine of 10 matches as the top Bison pair. Juniors Tania Varela and Carlin Calcaterra haven't lost a doubles match yet, playing in the third flight (7-0). Dara Dwojewski and Globerman have also produced seven wins this spring (7-4).
• Bucknell hasn't lost a match since a close loss, 5-4, to Nova Southeastern, on March 12. They've won five straight since, only giving up one singles match during that span.
• Gamboa has played the most matches out of any active Bison with 243. She's compiled a career record of 126-117.
• After losing their first five, and seven of their first nine, matches, the Black Knights have won 18 straight.
• Bucknell and Army have faced nine common opponents this spring. Bucknell has a record of 7-2 against these opponents and Army is 8-1 opposite those foes. The one difference was the Pittsburgh, who defeated Bucknell and were turned back by the Black Knights.
Men's Tennis Notes
• The top singles player for the Bison this spring has been Bednarek, who has produced a team-best record of 11-3. Sophomore Mark Malloy carries a 9-5 record, the second best on the team.
• Sophomore Anton Kovic and Sandburg make up the Bison's number one doubles team, where they've produced an 8-6 spring record.
• Sandburg's last doubles win against Lehigh Thursday gave him sole-possession of Bucknell's overall wins record (146-111).
• The only common opponent for Lafayette and Bucknell this spring was Quinnipiac. Against Quinnipiac Bucknell won 4-3. The Leopards lost to Quinnipiac on March 28, 7-0.
• Bucknell and Army have played three common opponents this spring; Bucknell has a record of 1-2 against these opponents and Army has a record of 0-3.
