Bucknell Women's Rowing Opens Busy Weekend with Strong Showing at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Rivanna Reservoir) – Less than one week after returning from its spring training trip to Georgia, the Bucknell women's rowing team faced nationally ranked Virginia on Friday at the Rivanna Reservoir and had a strong showing.
In the varsity eight race, the Bison timed in at 6 minutes, 38.3 seconds, 14.3 seconds behind Virginia, which is ranked sixth according to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll. Last year, Bucknell was more than 15 seconds behind the Cavaliers in the same race.
Virginia also won the other four events. The closest race was the novice eight. Virginia won in a time of 6:51.1 with the Bison freshman eight in second in 6:58.9. Bucknell's lightweight eight was in the same race and took third in 7:09.2.
In the varsity four, Bucknell defeated a pair of Virginia boats to take second in the four-boat field. The Cavaliers “A” boat took first in 7:14.0. Bucknell was next at 7:23.7, while the Virginia “B” and “C” boats finished third and fourth, respectively.
Bucknell, which was competing in its first timed race of the spring season on Friday, will take on North Carolina on Saturday on the Rivanna Reservoir.
