LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell will be part of a high-quality 43-team field -- the largest field in collegiate women's golf -- when the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic gets underway on Sunday. The 54-hole event runs through Tuesday at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina.
This will be the 2009 spring opener for the Bison. Head coach Kevin Jamieson's squad is coming off a strong fall campaign, and the Bison will send a junior (Leah Antkiewicz), a sophomore (Katie Jurenovich) and three freshman (Minjoo Lee, Kelsey Meybin and Brittany Rendell) up against top-50 programs such as Florida, Oregon and Kentucky. Of the 43 teams in the event, 21 are ranked in the top 100 by Golfweek.
The event is unique to collegiate golf as there will be a cut line of sorts. Each team will play one round on the Cougar Point course and one round on Oak Point before a cut after two rounds. The top 22 teams will play Cougar Point for the tournament championship while the bottom 21 teams will be playing Oak Point for a flight championship.
The first two rounds will be a fixed tee format, with the final round on Tuesday a shotgun format.
