LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's basketball claimed its second Patriot League/Anaconda Rookie of the Week honor of the season as Lindsay Horbatuck (Avon, Conn./Avon) brought home the award on Monday. Horbatuck posted a number of career highs, including a personal-record 13 points, in the Bison's matchup with Towson last week.
Horbatuck's 13 points was not only a career high, but it also paced all scorers at Towson. To reach that milestone, the freshman set personal-best marks in field goals made and attempted, shooting 4-for-6 from the field, as well as free throws made and attempted with a 5-for-8 mark from the line. Her six rebounds tied a personal record. Horbatuck also finished with three steals and an assist in the contest.
Although Horbatuck drew her second start of the year against the Tigers, she has come off the bench in a majority of her appearances. That has not kept the Avon, Conn., native from making an impact for the Bison, as she leads the team in steals with 19 this season. Horbatuck has at least two steals in four of the last five games, including a six-steal performance when Bucknell hosted Loyola (Md.). Through Bucknell's first nine games, Horbatuck is averaging 4.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
The weekly award is the first of Horbatuck's career and the second of the season for the Bison. Rachel Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio/Loveland) also earned top rookie honors on Nov. 30.
Bucknell is 2-7 on the year following its most recent 59-48 loss to Towson on Dec. 7. The Bison will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 21 when they travel to Drexel for a 1 p.m. game in Philadelphia. Bucknell's next home game comes at 4 p.m. on Dec. 30 vs. Lycoming. Fans are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to Sojka Pavilion to be donated to a local food bank.
