LEWISBURG, Pa. - With Bucknell women's basketball's first game just over one week away, activity is starting to pick up around the Bison. Bucknell's 2009-10 media guide is now available at BucknellBison.com, along with the latest Patriot League Preseason Poll in which the Bison were picked fifth.
After finishing in a third-place tie in the Patriot League a year ago, the Bison were picked fifth in the league's preseason poll voted on by coaches and sports information directors. With 52 points, the Bison came in behind first-place Lehigh (97 points), which won both the league's regular-season and tournament titles in 2008-09. Second place was shared by American and Holy Cross (76), and Navy was fourth (54). Taking the final three spots in the poll were Army (50), Colgate (22) and Lafayette (21).
More information on the Bison and their league opponents can now be found in the 2009-10 Bucknell Women's Basketball Media Guide at BucknellBison.com. The 112-page publication features bio information on each Bison player and coach as well as statistics, facts and records pertaining to the program.
Bucknell opens its season with the Iona Tip-Off Tournament in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Orange and Blue will face Miami (Ohio) at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, followed by either Arizona or Iona on Sunday.
Bucknell then returns to Lewisburg for its home opener on Nov. 19, battling Penn State at Sojka Pavilion. Tickets for the in-state rivalry are available at BucknellBison.com or 570-577-1000.
The Bison finished last season 16-12 overall and 8-6 in the Patriot League, claiming the third seed in the league tournament. After being picked fifth in the 2008-09 preseason poll as well, the finish marked the eighth time in 11 years that Bucknell completed the season ranked higher than predicted.
