LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) has been named the Patriot League Golfer of the Month for September after winning two individual titles in his three starts. Bartow opened the season with a victory at the Colgate Invitational and he won again two weeks later at the Cornell Invitational. Already this season, he has set career lows for gross score and score in relation to par.
On Sept. 12-13 at Seven Oaks Golf Club, Bartow finished even-par for the tournament after rounds of 73-71. He defeated Lafayette's Rob Robertson by two strokes en route to his first career title. At Cornell's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course on Sept. 26-27, Bartow fired a 3-under 69 in the final round and finished at 1-under for the weekend. That was good for a one-shot victory over teammate Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck).
Bartow did not win the Bucknell Invitational on Sept. 18-19, but his second-round 68 (-2) was a career low score and helped the Bison break a school record with a 276 (-4) team score. While the 68 was his career-best gross score, the 3-under 69 at Cornell was his best in relation to par.
An All-Patriot League selection last season, Bartow has a stellar 72.3 scoring average so far this fall. That ranks second on the team to Cohen (71.9), who won the Bucknell Invitational.
Bartow is the third active member of the Bison to win a Patriot League Golfer of the Month Award, and all three are seniors from Westchester County in New York. Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) earned the Award in September 2008, and Cohen won it in April 2009 after capturing the Patriot League championship.
As a team this fall, the Bison have won the Bucknell Invitational and finished second at Colgate and Cornell.
The Bison will be back in action this weekend at the Joe Agee Invitational, hosted by William & Mary at Colonial Golf Club.
