LEWISBURG, Pa. - Molly Goebel won two events and the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team set three new top-10 times as the Bison swept a tri-meet from Duquesne and Saint Francis (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell defeated the Dukes 184-114 and earned a 210-88 victory over the Red Flash.
Goebel won the 50-yard freestyle (23.90 seconds) and 100 free (52.80). The 100 free time was a season best, while she was .01 seconds off her season best in the 50 free.
Goebel earned two of the eight Bison victories in swimming competition, but was the lone double winner. Seniors Megan Mongan (200 free), Courtney Warren (100 back) and Abigail Atkinson (200 back) as well as freshman Anna Griest (500 free) also posted individual wins. The 200 medley relay squad and the 200 free relay quartet also earned victories.
Griest, whose 500 free time of 5:09.72 was a season best, posted a top-10 mark in the 1,000 free, an event she placed third in. She crossed the line in 10:28.55, putting her fifth on that list.
Another freshman, Morgan Oxley, also posted a top-10 time as she placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.84. That mark is tied for eighth on the Bison all-time list.
The 200 medley relay of Warren, Oxley, Goebel and Mongan bettered its previous season best by .01 seconds and recorded the eighth-best time in program history with a 1:47.06.
With the two wins Saturday, Bucknell improved to 3-0 on the young season. Duquesne defeated Saint Francis 142-120 and is now 1-2 this year. The Red Flash is 3-2 after losing twice Saturday.
Bucknell will take to the road for the first time this year next Saturday as it travels to Annapolis, Md., to face Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Navy. The meet will begin at 12 p.m.
