Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Goes 2-1 Against PL Foes American, Lafayette and Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team made its first road trip of the season Saturday and came away with a 2-1 record at a tri-meet against Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Navy. The Bison defeated the Eagles (203-94) and Leopards (240.5-59.5), but lost to the Mids (161-128). Bucknell is now 5-1 on the season.
Bucknell and Navy claimed first place in 15 of the 16 events, with a win in the 400-meter freestyle relay by American the only win by the Eagles or Lafayette.
Abigail Atkinson, Lauren Russell, Molly Goebel and Allison FitzPatrick picked up first-place finishes for the Bison.
Goebel, who also swam on the second-place 200-meter medley relay team and took second in the both the 50 and 100 free, won the 100 fly in 1 minute, 5.74 seconds, leading a 1-2-3 Bucknell sweep of the event. Laura Twichell and Kaitlyn Sweeney took second and third, respectively.
Bucknell also had success near the top of the standings in the 400 individual medley as Russell claimed first and was followed by Abigail Paules, Macey Keath and Sinead O'Dwyer in second, third and fourth. Russell's time of 5:05.21 was more than three seconds faster than anyone else in the field.
Atkinson earned Bucknell's first gold medal of the day, winning the 100 back in 1:06.12. It marked her fifth individual first-place showing of the season in a backstroke event.
FitzPatrick had a strong day diving, finishing third off the one-meter board and winning the three-meter competition. Her score of 251.85 off the three-meter bettered the field by more than 30 points.
Bucknell will be in action on the road again next weekend when it competes at the Princeton Invitational. The two-day event begins Friday (Nov. 13) and runs through Saturday (Nov. 14).
