Bucknell Women's Swimming & Diving Bests Army, 180-96

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team defeated Army, 180-96, on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Kinney Natatorium. The Orange and Blue now have a 6-2 record in dual meets this season, including a 3-2 record against Patriot League competition. Bison sophomore Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and freshman Jamie Chakany (Pittsburg, Pa./North Allegheny) each won two individual events, while the team totaled 10 first-place finishes on the afternoon.
Goebel placed first in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.39 seconds) and the 100 free (53.28). She also swam the third-leg for the winning team in the 200 medley relay. Swimming with Goebel were Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen), Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) and Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), and the quartet combined to touch the wall in one minute, 48.69 seconds. Mongan won the 200 free (1:56.72), and Warren placed first in the 100 back (58.07).
Chakany won both the 500 free (5:14.78) and the 1,000 free (10:43.09), marking the first time the freshman has won a collegiate race. Bison sophomore Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) won the 100 breast (1:06.04), while teammate Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School) won the 200 breast (2:29.09). Finally, Bucknell's Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) won the 200 back, with a season-best time (2:06.98).
The Orange and Blue will have little chance to rest, as they will travel to New York, New York tomorrow for a meet against Columbia. The Bison will return to Kinney Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 24, for a 1 p.m. contest against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.
