LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track & field team members Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) and Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) were named Patriot League Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Anthony and Musante were two standout performers for the Orange and Blue on Saturday, Jan. 10, during the Gulden Relays. Anthony won the triple jump and finished third in the long jump, while also competing as part of the winning sprint medley relay team. Musante won the weight throw and placed second in the shot put.
Anthony, a junior majoring in English and philosophy and a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, recorded a triple jump distance of 48 feet, 6.25 inches, an IC4A qualifying mark. Anthony had already qualified for the IC4A Championships this year in the triple jump, when he leaped 48-10 1/4 at the Bison Opener on Dec. 6. Anthony's long jump measured 21-10 1/4. Anthony has the second best indoor triple jump (49-7 3/4) in Bucknell history and the fourth best long jump (23-11 1/2).
In the men's sprint medley relay, Anthony teamed with Guy Castranova (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area), Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) to record the sixth fastest time in Bison history, crossing the finish line in three minutes, 35.25 seconds. Anthony ran the 200-meter portion of the race.
Musante, also a junior, won the weight throw with a toss of 52-1. That is her second best career indoor throw, trailing only her ECAC-qualifying toss of 54-0 at last month's Bison Opener. Musante threw the shot put 39-10 3/4. Musante places fourth in Bison history in the indoor weight throw and sixth in the shot put (43-1). She is a neuroscience major and a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
The Bison track & field team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m., hosting the Bucknell Heptagonal. This will be the first scored indoor meet of the year for the Orange and Blue.
