LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track & field team hosted the annual Gulden Relays on Saturday, Jan. 10, welcoming teams from schools such as UMBC, Wagner and Mansfield. The Bison men won four different relays, including setting the sixth fastest time in school history in the sprint medley. Bison junior Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) ran the 200-meter leg of the relay, finished third in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 10.25 inches and placed first in the triple jump with an IC4A qualifying distance of 48-6 1/4. He was named the meet's Most Valuable Field Event Athlete.
Joining Anthony on the sprint medley relay were Guy Castranova (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame), Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII). The quartet ran the race in three minutes, 35.25 seconds.
Castranova ran with Gary Bush (Trot Run, Pa./Montoursville Area), Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) and Clement Gyam (Yonkers, N.Y/Abraham Lincoln) to win the 4 x 400 relay (3:22.85), while Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock), Gregory Baxter (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) and Christopher Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas S. Whooton) won the distance medley relay (10:16.30).
The final relay event won by the Bison men on Saturday, was the 4 x 200, which Marlon Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods), John Quezada (South Hamilton, Mass./St. John's Preperatory), Coyne and Thomas McGarringle (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) won in 1:32.83. Woods placed fourth in the 60-meter dash, and his time of 7.02 seconds is third best in Bison history.
Bison junior Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) placed second in the pole vault and his distance (15-2 3/4) is tenth best in Bucknell history. Classmate Jonathan Lockhart (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) won the weight throw, tossing the 35-pound device 49-1.
"Considering the five-week layoff from our last meet, as well as the two-a-day practices this past week, I was very pleased with the results of this meet," Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. "We emphasized the relays on the track and between the men and the women we won nine of 12 relays and finished second in the other three. We should see big improvement next week at our scored meet, especially in the field events."
Keith Brown of UMBC was the men's Most Valuable Track Event athlete, placing first in the 60 hurdles and the shuttle hurdles and second in the 4 x 200.
The Orange and Blue return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, hosting the Bucknell Heptagonal at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The start time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
