LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track & field team finished first among five teams at the annual Bucknell Heptagonal, on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Bison scored 193 points at Gerhard Fieldhouse, besting teams from Saint Francis (Pa.) (110), Shippensburg (97), Lehigh (63) and East Stroudsburg (63). This was the first scored meet of the year for the Orange and Blue.
"We did a fantastic job across the board," Bison head coach Kevin Donner said. "All areas looked good, and we won pretty handily. It was also great to see our two captains back, Kerry Boyle (Conyngham, Pa./Hazleton) and Kevin MacLeod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow), after dealing with injuries for most of the fall and winter. Both looked really good. If we get a few more [team members] back from injury, then I think we will be a factor at the Patriot League Championships."
Boyle won the 500-meter dash in one minute, 5.51 seconds, while MacLeod finished fourth in the 400 (51.04) and third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.89).
Bison freshman Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) finished first in the 800 (1:58.17) and anchored the winning 4 x 400 relay (3:25.29). Joining Donaldson in the relay were Gregory Baxter (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central).
Bucknell also had the winning team in the 4 x 800 relay (8:05.22), as Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield), Kevin McGoldrick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.)) and Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) finished first. Smith also won the 1,000, finishing with a time of 2:32.28.
Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) won the 3,000 for the Bison in 8:38.83, while Marlon Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) won the 55-meter dash in 6.58 seconds. Bison junior Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) finished second in the 55-meter hurdles, and his time of 7.67 seconds qualified him for the IC4A Championships. It is also the fourth best time in Bison history.
Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) finished second in the triple jump for the Orange and Blue, recording an IC4A qualifying distance of 48 feet, eight inches.
The Bison return to action in two weeks, hosting the Bison Open and Multi on Jan. 30-31, while also participating in the Penn State National Invitational at University Park, Pa.
