"Overall, we accomplished a lot of missions at this meet," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We had quite a few people compete very well and put themselves in the discussion to make our league lineup in two weeks. We had some others that ended their season on a high note with season or personal best marks and others just needed a little tuneup for two weeks from now. We can now determine our league lineup in the next few days and focus on final exams and training next week."
Jared Hess did not post any of the wins but his second place finish in the triple jump headlined Bucknell's efforts. The jumper, who received Most Improved for his indoor campaign, continued his upward progression by leaping 48-2 in his fourth attempt. The mark moved him into eighth all-time at Bucknell. The distance was the final in a series of three straight jumps where he constantly improved his output.Â
"I was honestly super excited I was able to jump under the lights tonight," said Hess. "I've been working on some jump thoughts the past couple of weeks and tried to implement them today. My approach is always just to do my best! My initial thought after the jump wasn't that it was a PR, but surprisingly enough it was!"
Mason Barlow claimed victory in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:32.14. The junior was running in third before surging ahead for the win.
Michael Chernova earned the other Bison victory by winning the pole vault. He cleared a season best 15-3.Â
Wade Shomper finished second and was the highest collegiate placement in the shot put. Bucknell's record holder in the event threw 17.43m (57-2.25) in his fifth try. Next up for Shomper -Â defending his crown at the PL Outdoor Championships.
Keenan LaMontagne earned another second place for the throws contingent in the discus. He recorded a mark in every attempt and his best distance of 49.95m (163-10) arrived in his fifth chance.
The Bucknell "A" Team of Colin Burke, Gardy Philogene, Luis Colmenares-Bittar, and Brayden Young finished second in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet ran 3:25.97.Â
Ryan Pepperman notched second place in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The freshman logged a personal best 9:21.07.Â
Julius Catuogno placed third in the javelin throw, recording a distance of 55.50m (182-1) in his final attempt.Â
Ethan Knight took third in the 400-meter hurdles and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles. He ran 53.91 in the former and 15.26 in the latter.
The Bison foursome of Amani Brown, Garrett Backus, Preston Lubeski, and Luke Petryna slotted fourth in the 4x100-meter relay. The grouping ran 41.08, nearly equaling their PR.
Jason Lessieu and Tristan McFarlene provided two strong showings for the jumps crew with their fifth place finishes. Lessieu recorded a 23-2.75 mark in his fifth attempt in the long jump. McFarlene cleared a season best's 6-2.75 in the high jump.
Carter Paul claimed fifth in the 1500-meter run, registering 3:53.34.Â
Aiden Tacker placed sixth in the hammer throw, tossing 56.76m (186-2) in his sixth and final fling.Â
Lubeski raced a season best 48.11 in the 400-meter dash.Â
Bucknell will rest and recharge for the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, hosted by Navy, on May 15-16.
