LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team fell behind early against a very talented Lock Haven squad, and was unable to score despite a strong second half, losing to the Eagles, 4-0. The Bison (4-3) gave up three first-half goals to Lock Haven's Amy Hordendorf, and were unable to get a shot past Eagles goalkeeper Erin Terreson.
Hordendorf scored an unassisted goal just one minutes and 25 seconds into the game, sending one past Bucknell goalie Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex). She tallied again at the 19:16 mark, this time on a penalty stroke. She completed the first-half hat trick, just 1:36 later, off of a feed from Blair Wynne.
"If you pick and choose when you play against Lock Haven, a perennial champion, then you the leave the game up to them," Bucknell head coach Jeremy Cook said. "We really came back strong in the second half though."
The Orange and Blue, playing without key offensive players Jacquie Kataneksza (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) and Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor), attempted 11 penalty corners and 12 shots in the second half, but were unable to score. Terreson recorded eight saves, and Wynne capped off the scoring for Lock Haven, scoring off of a penalty corner 4:02 into the second stanza.
Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) attempted four shots apiece to lead Bucknell, while all three of Trina Boyer's (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) were on goal. Atieh finished the day with eight saves.
The Bison return home to Graham Field on Wednesday, Sept. 24, hosting Saint Francis (Pa.) at 7 p.m. Bucknell will then welcome Siena to Graham Field on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 12 p.m., a game that will be available to watch online through Bison Vision at www.BucknellBison.com.
