BUFFALO, N.Y. - Bucknell's men's soccer team wrapped up a difficult road trip with a 2-1 loss at Niagara on Sunday afternoon. The Bison, whose five-game unbeaten streak ended at Binghamton on Friday night, are now 3-3-2 on the season, while Niagara improved to 5-1-1.
Conor O'Brien (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored Bucknell's lone goal, giving him one in each game on the weekend. The tally came off a Jason Soto (Hackettstown, N.J./Morris Catholic) assist in the 85th minute, but the Purple Eagles already had two on the board and the Bison generated only one more shot the rest of the way.
Joe Skinner put Niagara on the board first in the 22nd minute, then Matthew Durand gave the Purple Eagles some breathing room when he scored his sixth goal of the season on a corner kick.
Junior Will Byrne (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna) made his first career start in goal for the Bison and made eight saves, while John Fiutowski and Jason Whitehead each played a half for Niagara, making three saves each.
The Purple Eagles held a 17-15 shot advantage and had eight corner kicks to Bucknell's three.
The Bison have another road game - their seventh in nine games to start the season - on Wednesday at Saint Francis (Pa.) before returning home to face Navy Saturday night in their Patriot League opener.
