Bucknell Men's Tennis Completes Second Day of Northeast Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Bucknell men's tennis team completed the second day of the Northeast Tournament on Saturday, being held at Brown University in Providence, R.I. The Bison went 5-2 in their doubles matches, and 6-4 in singles competition.
Bucknell's Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) won his No. 1 Flight Singles match, 6-1, 7-6, against Bryan Song of Dartmough, advancing to the semifinal match tomorrow. Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) lost his match against Markus Bolinder of Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1, 7-6, and will play tomorrow for the right to advance to the fifth-place match. Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) and Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) both won their No. 2 Flight Singles matches. Malloy topped the Knights' Andrew Denny, 6-4, 6-4, and Brenner defeated Andy Kim of Dartmouth, 7-5, 6-2.
Bison sophomore Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) lost his No. 3 Flight Singles match, retiring in the third set. Bucknell's Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) defeated Diego Benavent of the Knights, 6-1, 7-5, and will play in the No. 4 Singles match for ninth place on Sunday. Clark Bogle (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy) of the Bison defeated Mayer Kassety of Brandeis, 6-0, 6-1, but teammate Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) lost a tough match to Nikoli Hill of Bryant, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Bucknell's Jamie Watson (Darien, Conn./Darien) won his match in the No. 6 Flight Singles bracket, defeating Dave Isenberg of Brandeis, 6-4, 6-3. Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) rounded out singles play for Bucknell on Saturday, losing his No. 6 Flight Singles match, 6-2, 6-1, to Alex Hanno of Villanova.
In the No. 1 Flight Doubles, Bucknell's Brenner and Cohenca came in second place, defeating Henny and Denny of Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-4, before falling 8-5 to Wu and Parker of Harvard in the championship match. Bucknell's Sandberg and Kovic captured ninth place, with a 9-8 win over Kim and Song of Dartmough.
In No. 2 Flight Doubles, Hascoe and Malloy earned first place, defeating Drosick and Taylor of Villanova, 8-1, and Bolinder and Jorne of Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-5. Bucknell's Bednarek and Bogle played two different teams from Brandeis, winning their first contest, but falling in the fifth-place match, 9-7. Watson and Maxson paired in the No. 3 Flight Doubles, Watson and Maxson fell to Cook and Cardona of Connecticut, 8-6.
Play concludes tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 21, in Providence, R.I., beginning at 9 a.m.
