PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Bucknell senior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) scored two goals for the second straight game, and the Bison field hockey team came from behind to defeat La Salle, 3-1, on Friday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa. Bison goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) tied her career-high with 10 saves, and Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) scored the game-winning goal with under 18 minutes to play in the game.
Faust, last week's Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week, now has five goals this season, tying her total from all of last year. With 23 career goals she is now tied for ninth all-time in Bison history.
The Explorers were first on the scoreboard, thanks to a goal by Colleen Lechner 17 minutes and seven seconds into the game. Faust tied the game just 2:42 later, following a penalty corner, and was assisted by Katie Ruiz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area). Atieh made five first-half saves and the teams concluded the opening 35 minutes tied at one.
After combining for five penalty corners in the first half, Bucknell and La Salle totaled 13 after the intermission, eight for the Bison. At the 17:29 mark of the second half, Bruvik scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor), following a penalty corner. Kauffman has a team-high six assists this year. Faust scored the game's final goal with 5:08 remaining to play, coming after another penalty corner. This time Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) had the assist.
La Salle attempted 13 shots on the day, 12 of which came on goal, compared to 12 and 9, respectively, for the Orange and Blue. Emma Ruth made four saves in goal for the Explorers.
The Bison return to action on Sunday, Sept. 21, traveling to Lock Haven, Pa., for a contest with the Eagles. Lock Haven (5-2) plays Colgate tomorrow, before welcoming the Bison to close out the weekend. Bucknell's next home game is on Wednesday, Sept. 24, against Saint Francis (Pa.). The game starts at Graham Field at 7 p.m.
