BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Two teams riding five-game unbeaten streaks squared off in front of a record crowd at Bearcats Sports Complex on Friday night, and after a 3-1 decision it was host Binghamton extending its run, while Bucknell saw its streak come to an end despite a strong second half. The Bison fell to 3-2-2 on the season and now head to Buffalo, N.Y., to face Niagara on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Bucknell upped the pressure in the second half and cashed in in the 54th minute when Conor O'Brien (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./St. Anthony's) headed in a free kick taken by Matt Hittson (Radnor, Pa./Radnor). O'Brien's goal was his first of the season to go along with his team-high four assists.
Bucknell had just come from behind to force a 2-2 tie with Hartwick with a late goal in its last match on Sunday, but this time Binghamton scored the game's fourth goal, with Ryan Tomko scoring a big insurance goal for the Bearcats in the 76th minute.
Andy Tiedt opened the scoring 18:43 in with a header off of Kyle Kucharski's cross. Binghamton went up 2-0 on Cameron Keith's goal from close range in the 38th minute.
Binghamton (4-1-2), which was coming off a win over No. 21 Wisconsin, outshot the Bison 12-8. Jason Stenta made four saves for the Bearcats, while Bucknell's Tommy Caso (Phoenix, Md./McDonogh) stopped three shots.
The crowd of 1,892 was the largest regular-season crowd in Bearcats Sports Complex History and the second-largest overall crowd.
