Bucknell Places Four on Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District II Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field and cross country programs were well represented on the Academic All-District II Track & Field/Cross Country Team, which was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Bison men's team had senior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and junior Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) earn honors, while senior Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) and junior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) were both first-team selections from the women's program.
To be eligible for the Academic All-District team, an athlete must be have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20. Each of the four Bison honorees will move to the national ballot and be eligible for Academic All-America plaudits.
Mante, who is making his second appearance on the Academic All-District II Team, was on the Dean's List in seven of eight semesters and was the 2007 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A successful pole vaulter who was a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selection in 2007, Mante is second on Bucknell's top-10 list for the pole vault both indoors (16-3 1/4) and outdoors (16-2). A two-time Patriot League indoor pole vault champion (2007 & 2008), Mante was the outdoor champion in 2007 and the runner-up in 2008. A four-time All-Patriot League selection, Mante was named All-East in the pole vault in 2007 and was a two-time IC4A qualifier both indoors and outdoors. He was also a 2007 NCAA Regional qualifier.
Mante graduated last month with a cumulative GPA of 3.71 and a degree in civil engineering.
A sprinter, MacLeod was a Patriot League scorer in the 60-meter hurdles, 200 and 400 indoors in 2008, marking his second consecutive year scoring in those three events. He followed that performance up with his second consecutive Patriot League title in the 400 hurdles outdoors. A two-time outdoor NCAA Regional qualifier in the 400 hurdles, MacLeod was fourth in that event at this year's IC4A Championships. Additionally, he qualified for the IC4As in the 110 hurdles and finished his career among Bucknell's top 10 outdoors in the 100, 110 hurdles and 400 intermediate hurdles.
Indoors, MacLeod holds the school record in the 60 hurdles (8.29 seconds) and ranks among the top 10 in program history in the 55 hurdles, 60, 200, 300 and 400.
Like Mante, MacLeod is majoring in civil engineering and has a GPA well above 3.50.
The 2007 Patriot League Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Nordquist had a solid cross country season last fall when she helped the Bison to their third consecutive Patriot League title. Nordquist finished ninth overall after placing 10th the year before. On the track, Nordquist had a ninth-place showing in the 10,000-meter run at the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Championships and a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 at the same meet.
A two-time All-Patriot League selection in cross country, Nordquist is majoring in Spanish and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List multiple times.
Rogers recently set a new school record in the javelin, registering a mark of 157-3 at the NCAA East Regional. That performance capped a season in which she won the Patriot League title in the javelin and finished eighth at the ECAC Championships in the event. A physics major, Rogers finished in the top two in the javelin three times in 2008.
As a junior, Rogers placed second in the javelin at the Patriot League Championships, marking her third consecutive year finishing as the runner-up.
The men's Academic All-America team will be released on Monday, June 23, while the women's will be released on Wednesday, June 25.
