
Bucknell Men's Track and Field Opens With Day One of Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team finished day one of the Bison Outdoor Classic, as individuals from more than 50 teams gathered at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for the distance and multi carnival, Friday night.
Sophomores Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) and Thomas Vogler (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) are competing for Bucknell in the decathlon. They opened the two-day competition with the first five events, Friday night. To open the day, White finished third in the decathlon 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38 (778) and Vogler came in sixth, stopping the clock at 11.81 (689). In the second event, White went 20-5 1/4 (637) in the long jump for second, while Vogler posted a distance of 20-3 (624) for sixth. In the shot put, White threw a distance of 38-0 (581) for fourth, while Vogler went 34-6 1/4 (517) for sixth. In the high jump, White took second with a mark of 6-3/4 (670) and Vogler took fourth with a height of 5-10 1/2 (619). In the fifth event, White ran a time of 51.84 (732) in the 400-meter dash to compile a total of 3,445 points halfway through the decathlon; he is currently in second place. Vogler ran a time of 51.63 (741) to compile 3,196 points and sit in fourth place at the end of day one.
In the invitational division of the 5,000-meter run, senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) led the Bison with a seventh-place finish and a time of 14:51.16.
Other top finishers for Bucknell in running events included freshman Clayton Smith (Sparta N.J./Pope John XXIII) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase; he ran a time of 9:40.00 for 20th. In the 1,500-meter run (non-invitational), sophomore Griffin Burns (Hanover, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) took 32nd with a time of 4:05.82. In the 5,000-meter run (non-invitational), sophomore Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) led Bucknell with a ninth-place finish and a time of 15:06.60.
In field events on day one, freshman Michael Deatherage (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) led the Bison with a third-place finish in the javelin, posting a distance of 187-4. In the long jump, freshman Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) posted a distance of 22-3/4 for a fourth-place finish. In the hammer throw, senior James Meyer (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) led Bucknell with a sixth-place finish and a distance of 163-11.
The Bison Outdoor Classic will conclude on Saturday, with Bucknell welcome 13 visiting teams: Detroit Mercy, Yale, Cornell, American, Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate, St. Francis (Pa.), Brockport State, Cortland State, Susquehanna, Muhlenberg and Duquesne. Saturday's events will begin at 9 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles. Field events will start with the women's shot put at 10 a.m. and track events are set to begin at 11:15 a.m. with the slower section of the men's 10,000-meter run.
