Bucknell Women's Golf Opens with 328 at Pinehurst

PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Bucknell women's golf team made its spring debut at historic Pinehurst Resort on Sunday, and led by a 7-over-par 79 from Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) the Bison opened with a 328 and sit in 18th place in a difficult field of 22.
The Bison, who played their first complete outdoor rounds of 2008 in Saturday's practice rounds, are ahead of Memphis (330), Jacksonville State (331), Marshall (331) and Big South rival Charleston Southern (338). East Tennessee State opened with a 307 to grab a four-stroke lead over Tennessee Chattanooga.
Playing the challenging Pinehurst No. 8, Chiodo turned in Bucknell's best round of the day by shooting 39 on the front nine and 40 on the back. Freshman Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) followed with an 82. Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame), playing her first round of the year after returning from a semester abroad, shot 83. Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) posted an 84 and Kristen Phalen (Duxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy) carded an 87.
Steffi Kirchmayr of College of Charleston and Christine Wolf of Chattanooga are tied for the individual lead after shooting matching 73s on Sunday.
The 54-hole tournament continues with a shotgun start Monday morning.
