Bucknell Men's Tennis To Host UMBC On Saturday, Navy On Sunday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team is set to continue a three-match week, hosting UMBC on Saturday and Navy on Sunday. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m., and Sunday's match will start at 1 p.m., to mark the start of Patriot League play for the Bison this season.
Bucknell opened the week with a 7-0 win over Mount St. Mary's at home, Tuesday afternoon. The Bison moved to 7-3 after Tuesday's match and have won their past five matches, against Mount St. Mary's, Boston University, Robert Morris, Southern Indiana and Winston-Salem State.
The Bison will face a 7-2 UMBC squad and a 13-7 Navy squad this weekend. Navy is 1-0 in Patriot League play, defeating Lafayette, 7-0, on Feb. 23.
Bucknell Men's Tennis Notebook
Against Mount St. Mary's, March 25 -
- The Bison opened a three-match week with a 7-0 win against Mount St. Mary's (1-9), moving to 7-3 on the season and continuing a winning streak that has brought five consecutive wins for the Orange and Blue.
- After the match against the Mountaineers, freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) continues to lead the Bison in doubles wins this season, with eight. Senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School), junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon), junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) follow, each with seven doubles wins. In singles, Brenner, Kovic and Malloy are tied for a team-high of seven wins.
- Reibeisen continues to set Bucknell's all-time combined victories record, now with 136 wins, while Sandburg now tallies 107 career victories, to rank third all-time. Sandburg is one win shy of 2006 graduate Asher Salam, ranked second all-time with 108 wins. Reibeisen owns Bucknell's all-time singles victories record with 72 wins and Sandburg sits at No. 10 with 42 wins. Reibeisen and Sandburg remain tied for the all-time doubles victories record, now with 64. Brenner follows at No. 3 for career doubles wins, with 55.
Last Time Out Against UMBC -
- The Bison fell, 6-1, against UMBC on March 24, 2007. The lone win for Bucknell came at the No. 1 singles spot.
- Against the Retrievers, Bucknell has picked up eight wins and suffering five losses in a series that began in 1992.
Last Time Out Against Navy -
- Bucknell went 0-2 against Navy last season, falling 7-0 on March 25, 2007, and 4-0 at the Patriot League tournament, April 22.
- In a series that began in 1950, the Bison have yet to defeat the Midshipmen.

Fall 2007 Tournament Season -
- Reibeisen, held a 10-6 overall record and an 8-5 record in Flight 1. Sandburg owned a 7-4 overall record, going 1-1 at Flight 1 and 4-3, while playing in Flight 2.
- In doubles, Brenner and Sandburg held a 12-3 record on the season and a 9-3 record in Flight 1 play. Also in doubles play, Reibeisen and Kovic went 7-3 on the season, and 6-2 record in Flight 1.
- At the ITA Regionals, Oct. 19 - 21 in Princeton, N.J., Brenner and Sandburg posted an 8-5 win over Luka Djordjevic and Matt Wacks of Hofstra in the first round of doubles and then fell to fell, 8-4, to fifth-seeded Chris Lee and Basu Ratnam of Brown in the second round. In singles, Reibeisen faced J.J. Gramatica of St. Peter's in the first round for a 6-2, 6-4 win. He won by default in the second round against Nate Gorham of Brown and fell in the third round, 6-1, 6-1, to Eddie Bourchier of Penn State.
Bison Honors in 2007 -
- On Jan. 31, Bucknell men's tennis was picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with 48 points. Navy led the way in first with 70 points and 10 first-place votes and Army followed in second with 64 points and four first-place votes. Rounding out the list was fourth-place Colgate (44 points), fifth-place Lehigh (31 points), sixth-place Lafayette (25 points) and seventh-place Holy Cross (12 points).
- On Nov. 14, Reibeisen was named Patriot League Player of the Month and on Oct. 3, he received an honorable mention for Player of the Month.
Looking Ahead -
- After this weekend's matches, Bucknell's next six matches will be on the road. The Bison will make-up this past week's postponed match at Villanova on April 2, and will face Patriot League opponent Colgate on April 5, at 1 p.m. The Orange and Blue will then travel to Penn State on April 9, before having three straight Patriot League matches on the road, against Lehigh on April 10, Army on April 12, and Lafayette on April 13. Bucknell's final home match of the season will be against Delaware on April 22. The Orange and Blue will then travel to Bloomsburg on April 23, for a final match before the Patriot League tournament, scheduled for April 25-27, in Hamilton, N.Y.
