
Bucknell Softball Sweeps Coppin State in Doubleheader, 20-0 and 17-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In its first home doubleheader of the season, the Bucknell softball team left Coppin State scoreless after two games, defeating the Eagles 20-0 and 17-0. The Bison improved to 5-15 on the season while the Eagles now hold a record of 0-10 in 2008. The Orange and Blue tallied 37 runs in Saturday's two games, a doubleheader record for Bucknell, since softball became a part of the Patriot League.
In game one, the Bison got off to a seven-run lead after the first inning and maintained the lead after adding ten more runs in the second inning, one in the third and two in the fourth, to bring the final score to 20-0 after keeping Coppin State from recording a run in five innings.
Junior Cassie Lloyd (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) and freshmen Sam Rollandi (San Carlos, Calif./Notre Dame Belmont) and Jessie Snyder (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) led the Orange and Blue in scoring, with each recording three in game one. Freshman Alison Ford (Suison, Calif./Fairfield) tallied three hits in her four at-bats, with one single in the first inning and a single and a double in the second inning. Ford also added four RBI's for a team-high.
Seniors Christie Wiest (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) and Heather Haskin (Noblesville, Ind./Thomas Scecina Memorial) split time at the mound. Wiest pitched the first three innings to pick up her third win of the season. Coppin State notched two hits off Wiest while Wiest pitched three strikeouts against the Eagles. Haskin came in at the start of the fourth inning and pitched three strikeouts, allowing one hit for the Eagles.
In game two, Bucknell also recorded a seven-run lead after the first inning and went on to add seven more runs in the second. The Bison tallied three runs in the third inning to secure a 17-0 victory over Coppin State in the second game of the afternoon.
Freshman Elyse Colmenero (Fresno, Calif./Central) led the Orange and Blue with three runs in game two. Junior Katie McDonald (York, Pa./West York Area) and sophomore Sherry Finkel (Morgantown, W. Va./University) split pitching time. McDonald picked up her second win of the season, pitching the first three innings. She allowed one hit and tallied six strikeouts while Finkel allowed two hits and posted one strikeout.
The Bison are now set to host the Penn State Nittany Lions in a home doubleheader this Tuesday, March 25, with the first game beginning at 3 p.m.
