WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- As the temperatures dropped at the Kingsmill Resort, so did Bucknell's scores. The Bison counted two 72s and two 75s on Tuesday for a team total of 294, and Bucknell finished in ninth place in a strong 19-team field at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate, hosted by William & Mary.
Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) and Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) both shot 1-over-par 72 on The River Course at Kingsmill to finish in the top 20. Lindgren tied for 15th with a 36-hole total of 145, while Aoki was one back in a tie for 17th.
Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) both carded 75s on Tuesday, while Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) finished with a 77.
All five Bucknell players did better in the second round than the first, and the team score fell by six strokes.
Bucknell's 36-hole total of 594 was just one back of eighth-place St. Bonaventure, which also shot 294 on Tuesday. Francis Marion University won the team title by seven shots over Detroit Mercy.
Mark Sommerfield of Detroit birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Cristopher Couch of Francis Marion for the individual medal.
Bucknell will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the George Washington Invitational at Bear Trap Dunes GC in Bethany Beach, Del.
