Bucknell Men's Tennis To Face Saint Francis (Pa.) On Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team is set to host its second home dual match this season against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the West Branch Tennis Club. The Bison had this past weekend off and most recently closed out a weekend on the road, Feb. 8 - 10, that began with a scrimmage against Cornell and brought a win against Quinnipiac and a loss against the University of Pennsylvania. Bucknell currently holds a 1-2 season record, defeating Quinnipiac and falling to Duquesne and Penn.

Against Cornell on Feb. 8 -
- Bucknell opened a weekend on the road with a scrimmage against Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. Senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) picked up wins for the Bison in No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively. At the No. 1 position in singles, Reibeisen defeated Jonathan Jaklitsch of Cornell, 3-6, 7-6, 10-8, while at No. 6 singles, Kovic won his match over Bryant Young, 6-4, 6-7, 10-6.
Against Quinnipiac on Feb. 9 -
- The Bison moved to 1-1 on the season after defeating Quinnipiac, 7-0.
- In singles, Reibeisen defeated John Hughes of Quinnipiac, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 1 position while at No. 2 junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) went 6-3, 6-2, over Brian Mikkelson. At the No. 3 spot, sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) topped Sean Peese, 6-3, 7-6, and at the No. 4 position, junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) went 6-3, 6-2, over Charles Feldman. Rounding out singles play, freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) defeated Scott Salway, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 and Kovic was victorious over Thomas Curran, 6-3, 6-3.
- In doubles play, Reibeisen and Sandburg defeated Mikkelson and Peese, 5-8, at No. 1, while Brenner and Kovic topped Hughes and Feldman, 8-1, at No. 2. Rounding out doubles play, senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Malloy went 8-6 over Salway and Curran at No. 3.
Against Penn on Feb. 10 -
- Bucknell wrapped up a weekend of play with a 6-1 loss on the road against Penn, bringing its season record to 1-2. Sandburg picked up the lone singles win for the Bison at the No. 2 spot. He was victorious over Joseph Lok, 5-7, 5-4 and then by default. Malloy and Young won their doubles match at the No. 3 position. The pair went 8-4 over Zach Gorn and Dmitry Bury.

Fall 2007 Tournament Season -
- Reibeisen, held a 10-6 overall record and an 8-5 record in Flight 1. Sandburg owned a 7-4 overall record, going 1-1 at Flight 1 and 4-3, while playing in Flight 2.
- In doubles, Brenner and Sandburg held a 12-3 record on the season and a 9-3 record in Flight 1 play. Also in doubles play, Reibeisen and Kovic went 7-3 on the season, and 6-2 record in Flight 1.
- At the ITA Regionals, Oct. 19 - 21 in Princeton, N.J., Brenner and Sandburg posted an 8-5 win over Luka Djordjevic and Matt Wacks of Hofstra in the first round of doubles and then fell to fell, 8-4, to fifth-seeded Chris Lee and Basu Ratnam of Brown in the second round. In singles, Reibeisen faced J.J. Gramatica of St. Peter's in the first round for a 6-2, 6-4 win. He won by default in the second round against Nate Gorham of Brown and fell in the third round, 6-1, 6-1, to Eddie Bourchier of Penn State.
Bison Honors in 2007 -
- On Jan. 31, Bucknell men's tennis was picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with 48 points. Navy led the way in first with 70 points and 10 first-place votes and Army followed in second with 64 points and four first-place votes. Rounding out the list was fourth-place Colgate (44 points), fifth-place Lehigh (31 points), sixth-place Lafayette (25 points) and seventh-place Holy Cross (12 points).
- Reibeisen now owns the all-time singles, doubles and combined victories records for Bucknell. He has 70 career singles wins, 58 career doubles wins and a combined total of 128 wins. Sandburg ties Reibeisen for the career doubles wins record with 58.
- On Nov. 14, Reibeisen was named Patriot League Player of the Month and on Oct. 3, he received an honorable mention for Player of the Month.
