LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's basketball team may face a busy schedule ahead of it with four games in nine days, but that did not stop the squad from putting in some quality time with kids at the Donald Heiter Community Center on Tuesday. The Bison spent the afternoon playing games and interacting with young fans in Lewisburg.
During their more than two hours at the Lewisburg-area community center, players and coaches ran basketball drills and held races and shooting contests with approximately 15 children. The Bison also had the opportunity to learn other games from the kids and finished the day helping to decorate cupcakes. Each child came away from the afternoon with a basketball, and contest winners earned t-shirts.
The Orange and Blue also visited local schools earlier in the season to continue to show their dedication to the community and to promote the team.
“Community outreach is extremely important to Bucknell women's basketball and the University,” said assistant coach Stephanie Marciano. “The coaching staff and players look forward to continuing in our effort to strengthen bonds between the local community and our team. We're extremely excited about what we've done so far and look forward to continuing in the future.”
Future events include visiting the Ronald McDonald House in Danville early in January to spend time with families and help prepare a spaghetti dinner.
Bucknell is 5-5 in the early stages of the 2008-09 season. The team next plays at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2 when it faces the Buffalo Bulls at Sojka Pavilion.
