LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Lauren Schober (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) was selected as one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award on Friday. The national award will be presented at the NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four to the student-athlete who best exhibits the “Four C's” of classroom, character, community and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying School, the award was launched during the 2001-02 season to honor the attributes of college basketball seniors who remain committed to their university and pursue the many rewards that a senior season and complete college education brings. Now in its eighth year for basketball the honor is also awarded to student-athletes in eight other NCAA Division I sports. Winners are selected by national balloting of head coaches, national media and fans.
The only student-athlete from the Patriot League to earn a nomination, Schober is averaging seven points and five rebounds per game this year. She recently reached the 100-game mark for her career with her start against Wofford on Friday. The senior forward ranks 23rd all-time in scoring with 869 points and is among the top four in program history in three-point shots made (111) and attempted (358). She also helped the Bison to its second Patriot League Tournament title last season, earning a selection to the league's All-Tournament Team.
An elementary education major, Schober completed her student teaching assignment with a local second grade class during the fall semester. She has twice been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and earned a spot on the Dean's List at Bucknell.
Each of the 30 female candidates represents a different university from 18 conferences. Ten finalists will be chosen from the nominees in February 2009.
After evening their record at 4-4 with a 74-66 win over Wofford, the Bison return to the road for a matchup with James Madison on Sunday, Dec. 21. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip in Harrisonburg, Va.
