EASTON, Pa. -- Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) scored two first-half goals to send the Bucknell women's soccer team on its way to a 4-1 victory over Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. The Bison have won three straight and improved to 10-5-2 on the season, giving them double digits in the victory column for the fourth year in a row.
Bucknell swept its weekend road trip -- the Bison won 2-0 at Lehigh on Friday night -- and improved to 4-2 in Patriot League play, but it just missed clinching a Patriot League Tournament berth as American squeezed out a scoreless tie with first-place Army on Sunday. Bucknell and Colgate are tied for third place with 12 standings points, two back of both Army and Navy. American has nine points and is within striking distance of the Bison and Raiders for one of the four tournament spots with just one conference game remaining in the regular season. Adding to the drama, American will play at Bucknell on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Against Lafayette (2-13-2), Bucknell used every available field player and topped the Leopards for the fifth straight time.
Dervarics got the Bison on the board 29:06 into the match when Lauren Stoller (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and Kelly Boswell (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) set up Dervarics in the box. Dervarics made it 2-0 in the 41st minute when she redirected in a headed pass from freshman Casey Crowley (Hamilton Square, N.J./The Peddie School).
Kelliann Doherty (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) scored her second goal of the weekend and third of the season just 5:29 into the second half. Dervarics made it a five-point day by assisting on the play.
Lafayette snapped a six-game scoreless drought in the 63rd minute when Stephanie Bereday tallied her first goal of the year against a large cast of reserves.
Megan DeGennaro (Westlake Village, Calif./La Reina) became the first Bison freshman to score a goal this season when her left-footed finish on a scramble in front found the net in the 82nd minute.
Bucknell held Lafayette to only two first-half shots and finished with a 13-8 shot advantage. Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) made three saves in 90 minutes, while Allison Malloy stopped seven shots for the Leopards.
Dervarics now has 12 goals and six assists for 30 points on the season, equalling her career-high output in each category from last season.
Bucknell has a non-conference road test at Princeton on Wednesday night before hosting American in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
