Bison Women's Track And Field Wins Bucknell Heptagonal

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison women's track and field team took first place at the Bucknell Heptagonal on Saturday, placing ahead of six visiting teams and winning four events. Bucknell compiled 171 points in front of second-place Duquesne (85 points), third-place Saint Francis (Pa.) (84), fourth-place Shippensburg (77), fifth-place Towson (64), sixth-place Lehigh (49) and seventh-place East Stroudsburg (27).
According to head coach Kevin Donner, "Our women have shown tremendous improvement since our Dec. 1 meet. We need to continue to show this improvement if we want to contend for the Patriot League title."
Bucknell's 4x800 relay team comprised of sophomore Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), senior Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), senior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area), won the event in 9:36.84.
Four Bison scored in the 5,000-meter run. Senior Jennifer Grant (Erie, Pa./Erie Villa Maria) won the event in 18:51.05. She was followed by junior Kim Hassett (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) in second (19:08.88), sophomore Erin Heidecker (Waterford, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) in fourth (19:22.10) and sophomore Gabrielle Skovira (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) in fifth (19:32.83).
In the 800-meter run, Gilbert took first with a time of 2:16.64. Also scoring for Bucknell were freshman Leighann Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) and junior Ashley Behre (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive), taking fifth (2:27.73) and sixth (2:32.01), respectively.
Freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) won the pole vault for the second consecutive meet this season. She posted a height of 11-3 ½.
Senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) threw a distance of 43-2 ½ in the shot put to tie the fourth-best mark in program history. She finished second while sophomore Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Pa./Shelton) took fifth with a distance of 38-2 ¼. Mockbee went on to record a 50-6 in the weight throw for fourth place. Musante also scored for the Bison in the event, taking fifth with a season-best throw of 49-9.
Top finishes in running events included sophomore Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York) in the 55-meter dash, placing third in 7.48. Evans went on to score for Bucknell in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 26.69. In the 400-meter dash, Pierce and junior Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) scored for Bucknell, taking fifth (1:00.27) and sixth (1:00.83), respectively. Senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) led the Bison in the 500-meter dash, clocking in at 1:17.69 for second place. Also scoring in the event was sophomore Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem), running a time of 1:18.29 for fourth place. Cranmer-Hart led the Bison in the mile, clocking a time of 5:12.34 for second place while junior Jessica Hibbert (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) followed in third (5:13.23) and junior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) placed sixth (5:16.37) to collect points for the Bison.
Hanson-Hall took second in the 1,000-meter run, finishing in 2:58.02. Also scoring in the event was sophomore Laura Cundey (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township), taking fifth with a time of 3:04.60. In the 3,000-meter run, three Bison scored with freshman Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) leading the way in second place (10:26.42). She was followed by junior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) in third (10:29.55) and freshman Alaina Chodoff in sixth (10:44.57).
Sophomore Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) scored for the Bison in the final for the 55-meter hurdles. She placed second in 8.81.
In the field events, Mantush led the Bison in the long jump with a third-place finish (17-5 1/4). Senior Denise Manero (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) followed with a season-best mark of 17-3 ½ for fourth and senior Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) posted a distance of 16-11 ¼ for sixth. Scoring for the Bison in the triple jump was Ayala in third (36-4 ¾) and freshman Alyssa Maier (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) in fourth (35-9 ½). In the high jump, freshman Emily Moles (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) was the lone scorer for the Bison, taking sixth with a height of 5-1/4.
Bucknell track and field will return to action next weekend, Jan. 25-26, in Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bison Open and Multi.
