HAMILTON, N.Y. - Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) shot a 2-under-par 70 and the Bucknell men's golf team got off to a solid start to its 2007 fall season, compiling a 299 team score on Saturday to sit two shots off the lead after the first of two rounds of the Colgate Invitational.
The Bison, who have won this event in two of the last three years, will enter Sunday's final round just two strokes behind host Colgate in the team standings. Third-place Central Connecticut State is six shots behind Bucknell, while Rider (306), Hamilton (308) and Fordham (308) round out the top five in the 15-team field.
Desai's 70 is his low collegiate round, and puts him just a shot out of the individual lead with 18 holes to play. Rider's Tyler Brewington and Colgate's Ricky Hayes both carded 3-under 69s on Saturday. No other player broke 73.
Also for Bucknell, Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) posted a 75 and sits in a tie for eighth place. Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) and Brian Poe (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) both shot 77, and Ryan Schneiter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) was Bucknell's fifth man with an 81.
