STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) shot a career-best 78 in the second round to highlight a busy opening day for the Bucknell women's golf team at the Nittay Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course. In their first event of the fall season, the Bison posted rounds of 329 and 334 and sit in 11th place among 14 teams in a very strong field.
After shooting 81 in the morning, Chiodo came back in the afternoon to shoot a 6-over-par 78. Her 159 total puts her in a tie for 22nd place.
Freshman Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) made a strong debut, posting rounds of 81 and 84. Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) shot 83-86, and Kathryn Batchelor (Lawrenceville, N.J./Princeton Day School) shot 84-86.
Princeton assumed a commanding lead with a pair of 302s. Led by individual leader Susannah Aboff (71-74), the Tigers have a 13-shot edge over second-place Maryland heading into Monday's final round. Penn State, Western Michigan, James Madison, Ball State, Xavier, William & Mary, Ohio and Boston College are also in front of the Bison. Bucknell is two strokes ahead of Bowling Green and well ahead of Rutgers and Monmouth.
