ITHACA, N.Y. -- Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford School) played 36 holes in 3-under par on Saturday, and the Bucknell men's golf team sits in fourth place out of 16 teams with 18 holes still to play at the Cornell Invitational.
Desai shot 70-71 at the par-72 Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, and the Bison senior is just one shot behind Rider's Tyler Brewington (69-71) for the individual lead.
With team scores of 294 and 295 for a 36-hole total of 589, Bucknell trails only Longwood (580), St. Bonaventure (583) and Cornell (586), and the Bison lead fifth-place Dartmouth by seven shots.
Behind Desai, Bucknell's other four players are all separated by four shots, and each had one excellent round and struggled in the other. Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) shot 73-77 and is tied for 26th overall. Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) posted 78-73. Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) opened with a 79 but came back in the afternoon to shoot 74, and Brian Poe (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) shot 73-81.
St. Bonaventure had the low team score of the day with a first-round 288, but the Bonnies shot 295 in round two to fall three shots behind Longwood for the team lead.
The final round gets underway Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
