Bucknell Men's Tennis Travel To UConn This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team is set to travel to Storrs, Conn. for the UConn Invitational this weekend, Friday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Sept. 30. The Bison opened the 2007 fall season at the Bloomsburg Invitational, Sept. 8 - 9, and most recently played in the Northeast Tournament at Brown, two weeks ago.

At the Northeast Tournament, Sept. 14 - 16 -
- Freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) made the final round in the No. 6 singles fight against AJ Nelson of Rhode Island and fell, 1-6, 6-1,10-2. He defeated John Magliano of Villanova in the semifinal round (7-6, 6-3), Scott Schulman of Brandeis in the quarterfinal round (6-1, 6-0), and opened the weekend with a win over James Sparacio of Lafayette (6-3, 7-6).
- Sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) played the top seed, Kendrick Au of Brown, in the No. 3 singles flight semifinal, dropping the match (6-3, 6-2). He made the semifinal round after picking up wins against Trenton Alenik of Villanova (6-3, 6-0) in the quarterfinal, and against Justin Seow of Fairleigh Dickinson (6-4, 6-2).
- Junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) faced Josh Girling of Fairleigh Dickinson in the semifinal round in the No. 4 singles flight and fell (7-5, 7-6). Brenner started the weekend with a win over Antonio Oliver of Marist (6-4, 6-4) and defeated James Murphy of Lafayette in the quarterfinal round (6-2, 6-0).
- In the seventh singles flight, senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./Canaan) fell to Alex Lesser of Villanova (6-3, 6-3) in the semifinal round. He defeated James Pellechi of Colgate (6-3, 6-1) in the quarterfinal round after first picking up a win over Mayer Kassety of Brandeis (6-3, 6-1).
- Senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) fell to Loic Sessagesimi of Marist (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) in the No. 1 singles flight and moved on to the consolation round for a 6-2 win over Jeff Cote of Rhode Island. Reibeisen then played Martin MacIntyre of Colgate and fell (6-4, 6-4).
- Junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) opened the weekend with a win over top-seeded Tim Wu of Harvard (6-2, 6-2) in the No. 2 doubles flight. Sandburg fell to Christian Coley of Marist (6-4, 6-2) in the next round.
- Bucknell's No. 1 doubles team of Sandburg and Brenner defeated top-seeded Sam Garland and Noah Gardner of Brown (8-6) to open the weekend, and picked up an 8-5 win over Brett Kraft and James Murphy of Lafayette in the quarterfinal round. The pair fell to Michael Kalfayan and Tim Wu of Harvard in the semifinal round (8-5).
Looking Ahead -
- Following the UConn Invitational, the Bison will host the Bucknell Invitational, Oct. 5 - 7, and will travel to Princeton, N.J., for the ITA Regionals, set for Oct. 18 - 20.
