Bucknell Field Hockey Defeats Georgetown, 3-2, In Overtime

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) tapped the ball in the goal off a hard shot from senior Chyncia Smith (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) 11 minutes into the extra period, to bring the Bucknell field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
The Bison (6-3) and the Hoyas (2-7) were tied with two goals each at the end of 70 minutes of play, forcing overtime. With under four minutes left in the extra period, Hoffman notched her sixth goal of the season to bring home the victory for Bucknell.
Georgetown put the first goal on the board at 24:26 into play, when Katie Lachman tapped the ball in after Lauren Sheets' initial shot on goal was deflected.
In the second half, the Bison rallied for two goals to take a 2-1 lead. At the 45:52 mark, the Bison tied the game at 1-1 when junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) tallied her fifth score of the season off an assist from Hoffman. At 53:34, junior Emily Hutchison (Leola, Pa./ Conestoga Valley) notched her first goal of the season, tapping the ball into the net off an assist from junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West).
The Hoyas leveled the score with less than 14 minutes left in regular time when Maggie Farrand went unassisted for her third goal of the season. Bucknell was able to come away with the win after Hoffman's tally in overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) made five saves for Bucknell, while Georgetown goalkeeper Dierdre Crovo also made five saves for the Hoyas.
Bucknell is now set to travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Bison's first Patriot League match-up of the season. Bucknell will take on Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 29 starting at 7 p.m.
