LEWISBURG, Pa. - Four different Bison entered the scoring column and the Bucknell field hockey team topped Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, at home Tuesday night to bring the Bison to 5-3 on the season. The victory marked Bucknell's second shutout of the season, with the first coming last Friday against La Salle, 1-0.
The Bison out-shot the Red Flash (0-7), 27-3 to bring home the win. Sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.), who earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, put the first goal on the board for Bucknell, at 28 minutes 37 seconds into the game. Krebs' tally, coming off an assist by junior Emily Hutchison (Leola, Pa. Conestoga Valley), was her sixth of the season.
Senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) recorded her fifth goal of the season at 32:39 into play. Hoffman scored off a rebound after freshman Kelly Bruvik's (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) initial shot on goal was saved.
The Bison scored their third tally just under three minutes into the second half when junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) tipped the ball in the net off an assist by junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) following a penalty corner.
Bruvik went on to notch her first career goal with less than eight minutes left in the contest. Bruvik went unassisted, tapping the ball in one-handed from a tough angle along the end line.
Sophomore Diana Bartley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made her second-straight start in goal and recorded her second shutout in five days after earning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week Honors on Monday. Red Flash goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck made 13 saves for Saint Francis (Pa.).
The Bison are now set to host Georgetown this Saturday at 12 p.m., before traveling to Bethlehem, Pa. on Sept. 29 to play Lehigh in Bucknell's first Patriot League match-up of the season.
