MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Freshman Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) scored for the fifth time in the last four games, but the 1-0 lead did not hold up as the Bucknell women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Robert Morris on Saturday. Following the setback, the Bison are now 3-3, while the Colonials move to 2-4.
Matlack gave the Bison a 1-0 advantage in the 32nd minute as she received a feed from sophomore Chelsea Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla./Palm Harbor University H.S.) and her shot deflected off a defender and into the net. The goal was Matlack's fifth of the season, bringing her to a team-best 11 points on the year.
Despite not registering a shot until the second half, Robert Morris evened the score at one in the 71st minute with Brenda Sasu finding the inside of the right post. Kathleen Caggiano and Daneen Stevenato both were credited with assists on the play.
Then at 87:54, Caggiano netted the game winner for the Colonials, scoring on a breakaway off a pass from Jamie Morra.
Bucknell held a 27-5 advantage in shots over Robert Morris in the contest, while the Colonials led in corner kicks, 6-4. Jessica Onufer made 13 saves for Robert Morris and sophomore goalkeeper Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) stopped one shot for the Bison. Fouls were even at eight apiece.
Next up for Bucknell will be a home match against No. 20 Penn State on Wednesday, Sept. 19, beginning at 7 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field.
