Bucknell Field Hockey Cruises Past Monmouth, 8-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) notched two goals and one assist to lead the Bucknell field hockey team to an 8-2 victory over Monmouth in the first home game of the season for the Bison Saturday afternoon.
The Bison, now 2-1 on the year, had 26 shots to the Hawks' (0-2) seven for the game. At 17:31 into play, the first goal for Bucknell came unassisted by senior Chyncia Smith (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) after a scramble in front of the goal.
Junior Jacquie Kataneksza (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) posted the second tally for Bucknell with an assist from freshman Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township). The shot came in the 22nd minute and marked Kataneksza's second goal of the season.
At 26:28 into the contest, Monmouth got on the scoreboard with Kelly Crist netting the ball off a corner from Morganne Firmstone to bring the score to 2-1 at the half.
Just 29 seconds into the next period, junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) collected her second of the season off a feed from sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial).
Under two minutes later, freshman Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) tipped the ball into the goal off a pass from freshman Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh) for the first of her collegiate career.
Krebs went on to score her second of the season in the 41st minute of play when Faust passed her the ball following a scramble after a corner. Faust went on to score her first of the game, unassisted off her own rebound at 52:29.
Sophomore Austin Thomas (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) then netted the ball into the far corner past the goalie, off a feed from junior Sarah Herrmann (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) in the 60th minute. Thomas also had a hand in Bucknell's next tally, assisting on Faust's second of the game along with junior Katie Ruiz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) at 62:37, bringing the score to 8-1.
With under six minutes remaining in the second half, the Hawks scored their second goal as Crist drove home a hard shot from the top of the circle off a feed from Katie Admundsen.
Bucknell goalkeeper, sophomore Jessie Atieh (North Caldewell, N.J./West Essex) made three saves for the Bison. Monmouth's goalkeepers, Melissa Katz and Megan Smith split time, with Katz making all of the Hawks' 11 saves.
Bucknell is now set to face Towson at home this Tuesday at 7 p.m.
