Pair of Bucknell Track and Field Athletes Named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Monday, seniors Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area), of the Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams, were honored with the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week award for their outstanding performances at the 2007 Patriot League Track and Field Championships.
Kaehler, who was named the 2007 Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Meet, won his second straight javelin title with a throw of 230 feet, 6 inches (70.27m), which was a new Patriot League meet and school record. His mark ranks him ninth in the country and third in the East Region. Kaehler's performance this past weekend helped the Bison to a second-place showing after finishing sixth the last two seasons at the championships.
Sawko ended her Patriot League career by winning three gold medals and helping her team to its fourth straight league title and its eighth since 1999. She won her third 800-meter title with a time of 2 minutes, 10.37 seconds, and earned her first career medal in the 1,500 with a time of 4:32.85.
Sawko also won her third 4x800 relay gold medal with juniors Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) with a time of 8:57.80, which qualified the team for the ECAC Championships.
Both athletes will compete in the ECAC and IC4A Championships on Friday, May, 11, in Princeton, N.J. Kaehler qualified for the championships in the javelin, while Sawko qualified for the 800, 1,500, and the 4x800 relay.
