
Bucknell Women's Track and Field Sits in Second Place After Day One of Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After day one of competition at the 2007 Patriot League Track and Field Championships, the Bucknell women's team trails Navy by six points going into the final day of the meet. The Midshipmen tallied 66 points to lead the meet, while the Bison stands second with 60. Lafayette (24), Lehigh (16), Army (14), Colgate (6), American (0), and Holy Cross (0) currently sit third thru eighth, respectively. Due to a timing malfunction, the times for the sprinting and distance events are unofficial until further notice.
The quartet of senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area), along with juniors Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) took first in the 4x800-meter relay. Senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) picked up a silver medal after she notched a second-place finish in the 10,000. Also scoring in the event was sophomore Gillian Nordquist (Clarkstown, Mich./Clarkstown) finished sixth.
In the javelin, junior Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) collected her second straight silver medal and a new school record with a mark of 154 feet, 3 inches (47.03m), which is an NCAA East Regional and ECAC qualifying mark.
Senior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) placed second in the pole vault after clearing a height of 11-5 ¾ (3.50m). Also scoring in the event was junior Ashley Curry (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area), freshman Amanda Kronquist (Chino Hills, Calif./Brea Olinda) and senior Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun). Curry placed third with a mark of 10-11 ¾, while Kronquist and Hall placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with a height of 10-11 ¾.
In the hammer throw, senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) took second with a distance of 189-9 (57.83m), which is a new personal best and qualified her for the NCAA East Regional and ECAC Championships. Also in the hammer, junior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) placed fourth a mark of 164-9 (50.23m), which was an ECAC qualifying mark, while freshman Chelsey Mustante (Shelton, Pa./Shelton) picked up a sixth-place finish with a distance of 147-4 (44.91m).
In the long jump, freshmen Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands) and Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Pierce jumped for a distance of 17-7 ½ (5.37m), while Mantush posted a mark of 17-6 ¾ (5.35m).
In the heptathlon, seniors Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) is in second place with 2,857 points, while senior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) tallied 2,474 points, which is good for fourth after four events. Freshman Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York) qualified for the 100 finals, while senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) will run in the finals of the 110 hurdles.
The final day of the 2007 Patriot League Track and Field Championships will begin with the men's decathlon 110 hurdles and the women's long jump heptathlon on Saturday, May 5, at 9 a.m.
