LEWISBURG, Pa. - Four Bucknell student-athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II At-Large men's and women's teams, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. Junior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) of the field hockey team, senior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) of the women's swimming and diving team, senior Paul Stansik (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) of the men's lacrosse team and senior Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) of the men's golf team all earned second team honors for the Bison.
Hoffman, a midfielder for the Orange and Blue, started all 17 of her squad's games last fall and recorded two goals and two assists for six points on the way to a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection.
Away from the turf, Hoffman holds a 3.95 grade-point average as a psychology major and is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and the Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad. Hoffman is also a member of Psi Chi, the national honor society for psychology, serves as the vice president of the Psychology Club at Bucknell, is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been a teacher's assistant for a psychological statistics course.
Munson finished her career with the Bison with four All-Patriot League honors to her credit, including first-team selections in 2005, 2006 and 2007, helping Bucknell to three league championships and one runner-up showing during her four years as a member of the Orange and Blue. As a co-captain for the 2006-07 squad, she scored in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 100 back at the 2007 league meet and posted team-best times in the 100 fly and 200 fly in both events. Munson holds the school record in the 200 fly, an event she won two Patriot League titles in, and holds top-10 marks on the 100 fly and 100 back lists, as well.
In the classroom, Munson posted a 3.86 GPA as a double major in education and English. She was a Dean's List student, a three-time PL Academic Honor Roll member and was a past recipient President's Award for Academic Achievement and the Bucknell Prize for Women. Munson has also served as a volunteer coach with the USS Marlins swim team and has taught swim lessons for inner city children through the Boys and Girls Club for the past seven summers.
This spring, Stansik was one of the top long-stick defensive midfielders on a Bison squad that finished 11-4 and was nationally ranked for most of the season. He recorded 22 ground balls during his senior campaign and was part of a Bucknell defense that allowed only 6.33 goals per game, which ranked fourth-best in the nation.
A 2007 team co-captain, Stansik played in 46 career games and was one of 20 national candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which honors personal character in addition to academic and athletic success. As a management major, Stansik carried a 3.55 GPA and was a Dean's List student and a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member.
After recently completing his highly successful collegiate golf career with a second straight appearance at the NCAA Regional, Waddell set school records for season and career stroke average at 73.7 and 74.9, respectively. In four Patriot League Championship appearances, Waddell took sixth, first, first and third individually, becoming the only two-time champion in league history and one of just five four-time all-league performers. This season, Waddell finished in the top-10 on eight occasions and helped Bucknell to its second straight Patriot League team title by posting a 68 in the final round (-2) of competition.
As a double major in political science and religion, Waddell carried a 3.34 GPA and was a past member of the Patriot League Academic Honor.
