TEMPE, Ariz. - Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) carded a Bucknell tournament-best 2-under-par 70 and the Bison shot a 295 to mark their best team score of the three-day NCAA West Regional as they finished in 26th place following Saturday's competition at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course.
Cohen's performance on Saturday was a career-best score, beating his 72 from the George Washington Invitational and the Patriot League Championship. Bucknell started on the 10th hole and Cohen shot even-par through his first nine holes. He then tallied birdies on the third and fifth holes en route to his 2-under-par score. He finished at +5 for the tournament.
Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) shot a 1-over-par 73 on Saturday and finished the tournament tied for 86th overall in the field of more than 140 golfers with a 1-over 217. He was the top finisher for the Bison.
Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck), who fired an even-par score Friday, followed that career-best performance with a 1-over 73 to match Waddell for second on the team Saturday.
Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) and Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School) rounded out the five Bucknell competitors. Moran was at 7-over, while Aoki was at 8-over.
In the team standings, Bucknell used its tournament-best 295 score to finish ahead of Monmouth in the team standings. After shooting 299 each of the first two days, the Bison leapfrogged Monmouth, which ended up 15 shots behind Bucknell, which was at +29 for the three-day event.
South Carolina overtook UCLA for the top spot with a -44 score. The Bruins were second at -42. The top 10 teams in the 27-team field earned automatic berths to the NCAA Championship. In addition to South Carolina and UCLA, USC (-40), Arizona State (-40), Vanderbilt (-38), Arizona (-36), Stanford (-33), New Mexico (-31), Wake Forest (-25) and East Tennessee State (-25) advanced to the NCAA finals, which will take place at the Golden Horeshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., May 30 to June 2.
Arizona State's Benjamin Alvarado claimed the individual title with a three-day score of -18.
