LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's golf team traveled to Tempe, Ariz., on Tuesday in preparation for the 2007 NCAA West Regional at the ASU Karsten Golf Course. The Bison will get their first look at the par-72, 7,057-yard track during a practice round on Wednesday, then they will tee it up for real on Thursday at 7:17 a.m. local time.
Bucknell, which will be paired with Detroit and Monmouth for the first two rounds, has a 12:29 p.m. start time on Friday. The pairings and start times for Saturday's final round will be determined by standings, with the leaders teeing off early.
An automatic qualifier in the NCAA Regionals after winning its second straight Patriot League championship last month, Bucknell is seeded 26th out of 27 teams a strong West Regional. The top 10 teams along with the top two individuals not on one of those qualifying teams will advance to the 2007 NCAA Championship at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., on May 30-June 2.
Bucknell's five-man contingent will consist of two seniors, a junior and a pair of freshmen. One of those seniors is Charlie Waddell, the Patriot League individual champion in 2005 and 2006 who became the school's first four-time all-conference player with a third-place finish this season. Other 2007 All-Patriot League selections in the field are junior Keita Aoki (T-6th) and freshman Andrew Cohen (T-4th), who was also named the league's co-rookie of the year.
Senior Kyle Moran and freshman Brian Bartow will also compete in Tempe.
Last season, playing in the NCAA West Regional at Omni Tucson National, the Bison finished in 26th place with rounds of 297, 300 and 312. Aoki (226), Waddell (231) and Moran (240) were a part of that team, while Bartow and Cohen will be making their first NCAA appearance.
