LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's golf team will have to come from behind in order to repeat as Patriot League champion, as the Bison trail Army by two shots after 36 holes of the 2007 PL Championship at Bucknell Golf Club. The Black Knights compiled a pair of 293s on Saturday, while Bucknell shot 291 and 297 for a 588 total. The final 18 holes will be contested on Sunday morning.
After a spring filled with miserable weather for golf, beautiful conditions greeted the field of seven teams for a long day of 36 holes on Saturday. Bucknell's low player was its lone freshman in the lineup, Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), who shot 72-74 and sits in fourth place in the individual standings, five shots off the lead.
Senior Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy), who is looking for his third straight Patriot League title, turned in rounds of 74 and 73 and will enter the final round six shots off the lead. Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) is also in the top 10. Desai shot 72-76, good for a tie for ninth.
Also for the Bison, Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School) (73-76) and Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School) (75-74) are both tied for 13th at 149, while Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) is tied for 21st after rounds of 76 and 77.
Holy Cross' Matt Czarnecki handed in the low card of the day, a 2-under-par 68 in the afternoon, and he is tied for the individual lead with Navy's Chris Renninger at 1-over 141. Pat Beverly of Army is three back at 144.
Second-place Bucknell is four shots ahead of third-place Navy (592), with Lehigh (595), Lafayette (608), Holy Cross (608) and Colgate (611) also looking to move up.
