LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's lacrosse team wraps up the 2007 regular season with three home games in a five-day span, beginning with Wednesday afternoon's non-conference tilt against Saint Francis (Pa.). Over the weekend, the Bison host Lafayette and Ohio State in back-to-back 1 p.m. starts at Graham Field.
Two of those three games will feature live broadcasts. Wednesday's contest against Saint Francis will air live on WVBU 90.5-FM in Lewisburg as well as online at BucknellBison.com and SportsJuice.com. Saturday's game against Lafayette will have live streaming video free of charge on BucknellBison.com via the "Patriot League All-Access" link, and the radio play-by-play will also air on WVBU, BucknellBison.com and SportsJuice.com.
Bucknell is 5-8 on the season after defeating Wagner (19-12) and falling to American (17-6) late last week. The Bison put up a season scoring high in the win over the Seahawks, and the American game was just a 5-4 margin at halftime before the Eagles outscored Bucknell 12-2 in the second half.
Despite a 1-3 Patriot League record, the Bison are still in the hunt for a Patriot League Tournament berth, however they must defeat winless Lafayette on Saturday and get help from elsewhere around the league in order to qualify.
Sophomore Bonnie Buechel continues to lead the offense. Buechel reached the 30-goal plateau against American, and she had a monster game against Wagner in the last home contest. In that victory she had four goals, two assists and eight draw controls, including six draw controls in a row that all led to goals in Bucknell's decisive 6-0 run late in the game.
Buechel is tied for fourth in the Patriot League in goals per game (2.31) and seventh in points per game (3.00).
Chelsea Peters was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after scoring seven points in the two games last week, five coming against Wagner. Peters and fellow rookie Carol Donohue both picked up their 20th goals of the season on Saturday. Sophomore Sarah Collins had a goal and two assists against American, and she is now fourth in the league in assists per game (1.25).
Buechel and Lauren Deitrich rank first and third, respectively, in the Patriot League in draw controls. Buechel averages 2.77 per game and Deitrich 2.23. Deitrich, a junior defender, also leads the conference in caused turnovers (2.46) while chipping in 11 goals.
Saturday's game against Lafayette will be Senior Day at Graham Field. Prior to the contest, seniors Lauren Kremer, Erin Weinstein and Shauna Weinstein will be honored.
