
Bucknell Track and Field Competes in Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams participated in the first day of competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Friday. Freshman Steven Pierce (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) posted a first-place showing in the javelin with a mark of 216 feet, 9 inches (66.08m), which qualified him for the NCAA Regional and IC4A Championships. His mark also ranks him second all-time.
Also in the javelin, senior Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western) placed second with a toss of 210-01 (64.04m), which was a NCAA Regional and IC4A qualifying mark. Senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 195-9 (59.67m), which was a NCAA Regional and IC4A qualifying mark and ranks him third in school history.
Senior Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) posted a second-place showing in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 7.83 seconds, which ranks him fourth all-time. His time was also a NCAA Regional and IC4A qualifying time. Also in the 5,000, junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Academy) finished 10th with a time of 14:30.09, which also qualified him for the ECAC Championships.
Senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) placed third in the hammer with a distance of 172-5 (52.56m), which was and ECAC qualifying mark. Senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) finished fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:32.85, which is an ECAC qualifying time. Senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills) notched a ECAC qualifying time in the 5,000 after crossing the line ninth, with a time of 17:21.94.
Sophomore Nichole Smith (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) broke the plane with a time of 11:20.70, which was good for fourth place. After four events in the heptathlon (orange), senior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) sits in second place with 2,942 points, just 58 points behind the leader.
Bucknell will compete in the conclusion of the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday, Apr. 14, at Christy-Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The meet with begin at 9 a.m. with the men's decathlon 110 hurdles.
